The article is devoted to identifying the role of the Riga Methodological Seminar in the development of a system-thought-activity methodology and the historical reconstruction of the formation of the Riga Methodological Seminar in social and humanitarian knowledge of the second half of the 20th-21th centuries. The thematic specificity of the main stages of the development of the seminar and its influence on the development of the system-thought-activity methodology as a philosophical and methodological direction of social and humanitarian thought is revealed. The author analyzes the stages of development and reveals the continuity of the basic ideas of the functioning of the Riga methodological seminar.

Баляслаў Брэжга − адзін з самых значных латвійскіх і латгальскіх гісторыкаў усіх часоў. Аднак у яго біяграфіі існуе шмат замоўчанага і нават хлусні. Мэтай гэтага артыкула з’яўляецца іх выкрыццё на падставе сабраных архіўных матэрыялаў. Пры гэтым несумненна, што Б. Брэжга быў выбітным гісторыкам і наўмысна зробленыя ім змены ў афіцыйнай біяграфіі ніякім чынам не змяншаюць яго дасягненняў. У яго біяграфіі ёсць і іншыя незлічоныя факты, якія дазваляюць лепш зразумець не толькі яго асобу, але і той перыяд часу, калі ён працаваў вучоным у незалежнай Латвіі і пазней пры савецкім рэжыме.

Boļeslavs Brežgo is one of the most talented Latvian and Latgalian historians of all times. However in his biography there exist quite a lot of ambiguities and even falsehoods. The aim of the article is the disclosure of it on the basis of the collected archival materials. There is exists also other untold fact in his biography which allow us to better understand not only his personality but also that period of time when he was working as a scientist in independent Latvia and also later during the Soviet regime.

В статье на основании архивных документов изучена административно-территориальная принадлежность Двинского, Люцинского и Режицкого уездов Витебской губернии в 1917–1919 гг. Автор пришел к выводу, что данные уезды были окончательно выделены из состава Витебской губернии и переданы в состав Латвии еще в марте 1919 г., а не, как принято считать, в августе 1920 г. Первые же попытки выделиться из состава губернии Двинским, Люцинским и Режицким уездами были предприняты после Февральской и Октябрьской революции 1917 г. в России.

In article on basis of archival documents the administrative and territorial affiliation of the Dvinsk, Lyutsin, Rezhitsa districts of Viciebsk region in 1917−1919 was studied. The author came to the conclusion that these districts were finally isolated from Viciebsk region and transferred to Latvia as early as March 1919 not as known in August 1920. First attempts to separate out from the province of Dvinsk and Rezhitsa districts were undertaken after the February and October revolution of 1917 in Russia.

The article is devoted to the life and activity of the Latvian Soviet military commander Grosbergs Richard Karlovich. He was born into an ordinary peasant family in Livonia. R. Grosberg was the most of his life to the military craft devoted. During the World War I, he served in the army. Over the years of his service the career of Grasberg has a long way from the soldier of royal army to the brigade commander of the Red Army. His life ended in a tragic death during the period of Stalin's repressions in the late 1930s.

The Latvian family in Viciebsk region in 1920s on the basis of archival documents (Vydreya colony like an example)
Статья посвящена особенностям латышской семьи в 1920-е гг. (на примере хутора Выдрея, деревень Малая Выдрея и Большая Выдрея, расположенных на территории Витебщины). Источниковедческой базой исследования являются документы Государственного архива Витебской области. В 1920-е гг. в населенных пунктах, в которых проживали латыши, они могли составлять как небольшой процент от общего количества населения (в 15%), так и значительную долю среди крестьян (примерно 80%). В латышской среде наиболее типичными были семьи из 3–6 членов, из которых совершеннолетними была примерно половина. Жизнь латышей неразрывным образом была связана с сельским хозяйством, являвшимся главным источником их доходов. В распоряжении всех латышских крестьян была пахота, луговые угодья, крупный рогатый скот. Кроме того, преобладающее большинство латышей имело сады, пасеки, держало коней и другую живность. В течение 1920-х гг. произошло некоторое перераспределение имущества: отдельные хозяйства обогащались за счет других. Также насущными вопросами латышского крестьянского быта являлись нехватка в ряде хозяйств рабочей силы, периодические неурожаи, ослабление хозяйства из-за обложения налогами.

The article is devoted to the peculiarities of the Latvian family in the 1920s (like an example of the village Vydreya, villages Little Vydreya and Big Vydreya, located on the territory of Viciebsk region). The source which study base are the documents from the State Archive of Viciebsk region. In the 1920s in the settlements where the Latvians lived, they could constitute both a small percent of the total population (15%) and a significant proportion among the peasants (approximately 80%). In the Latvian environment, the most typical were families from 3 till 6 members where about a half were adults. The daily life of Latvians was inextricably linked with agriculture, which was the main source of their revenue. All Latvian peasants had plowing, grasslands, and cattle. Also they have gardens, apiaries, horses and other animals. During the 1920s there was some redistribution of property between Latvian families. The vital issues of the Latvian country life were shortage in a number of farms of labor, periodic crop failures, weakening of economy because of taxation.

The article analyzes the publications of the main newspaper of the Hrodna region “Hrodnenskaya pravda” (Hrodna), Latvia and relations between Belarus and Latvia in the first half of the 1970s is devoted. The main attention to the speeches of the representatives of the Latvians Communist Party and the Latvian SSR Council of Ministers is paid; the rhetoric and ideology (primarily the concept of “friendship of Peoples”) are analyzed. Attention is also drawn to the cultural and sports connections between Hrodna region of Belarus and Latvia, including football and rugby competitions.

The article focuses on some aspects which refer to the Belarusian-speaking rural people living in southeastern Latvia (Belarusians and Poles). The first is issue relates to image of Latvian state in different historical periods (interwar period, period of World War II, Latvian SSR and Latvia after 1991). The second part of article shows the image of Latvians and Latgalians as well as the issue of Belarusian-speaking people towards Latvian language and Latgalian dialects. The results were based on materials collected during field research in five regions of Latvia (ca. 300 hours of interviews).
